Sharing What We Learned about Healthy Eating

As we studied the Scriptures, we became increasingly convinced that caring for our bodies deserved thoughtful attention. The Bible describes our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. We understood this to mean that our physical lives, as well as our spiritual lives, had been entrusted to our care.

Eating is an essential and enjoyable part of everyday life. For us, it became an opportunity to consider how our choices could express gratitude to God and support our ability to serve Him. We came to believe that His instructions about food offered guidance worth studying and putting into practice.

As Lorenzo taught these principles in our church, we wanted our fellowship meals to reflect what was being shared. The table became a place where people could experience nutritious food that was also appetizing and satisfying. Teaching through a meal gave people something they could taste and enjoy.

We also believed it was important to allow people room to grow. These convictions were not presented as a way to earn salvation, and we did not require church members to follow our practices in their homes. Our desire was to teach faithfully, lead by example, and invite thoughtful consideration.

We recognized that eating according to these principles did not guarantee that we would never become ill or that we would live to a particular age. Our purpose was to honor God through the care of what He had given us. Our hope is that our experience will encourage others to consider the place of faith at their own tables.
